Visit to Westpac Bank

On April 4th the society held a visit to the London offices of one of Australia’s ‘Big Four’ Banks: Westpac.

A small group was able to gain an insight into the various aspects of a career in Finance. Perhaps the most notable speaker during the visit was the bank’s senior economist, James Shugg, who provided an economic update and career briefing.

The group was then provided with presentations and Q&A sessions from management of the following departments: Treasury, FX, Capital Markets, Compliance and Corporate/Financial Institutions.

Students in attendance found the visit to provide a wealth of information; being able find connections in what they heard with what has been learned at university meant that all attendees left with a greater understanding of a future in this industry and the operations of a bank.

We would like to thank the society’s sponsor, CPA, in particular Paul Taylor for organising this event.

We would also like to thank all at Westpac who made this visit possible and took the time to talk with us: Rod Jackson, James Shugg, John Toro, Emma Norman, Paul Gover, Anton Aziz & Angelika Noll.
